2011 Toyota Etios - Quality for The Masses

Toyota Etios - Quality for The Masses

The brand name Toyota has been synonymous with quality and reliability in the Indian market. The Innova for instance continues to be the segment ruler from the day it was launched in the Indian market. However, even the cheapest Innova variant is out of common man’s reach and hence the idea of a mass product was developed. The Etios sedan was born after years of development, both in India as well as Japan.

Indians love to carry their complete family around and hence it was space and comfort that were given top priority. Of course, India is also the land of pricing and hence it was pretty clear that Toyota Etios would carry a competition matching price tag. Toyota offerings have been known to carry an understated and simple design language and this is very much the case with the Etios too – both on the outside as well as inside. In the same price segment as the Maruti Dzire, Tata Manza, Hyundai Accent and Mahindra Verito, the Etios manages to beat almost all of them as far as best combination of ride quality, space and comfort is concerned.

Good touch points include multiple bottle holders, a chilled glove-box and unique air flow vents up front. Though diesel would have been the perfect offering for India, currently, the Etios is powered by a very potent 1.5-litre petrol engine that gives it the best in class performance along with decent fuel economy too. And true to most Toyota models, the Etios is very easy to drive in traffic with a light yet responsive steering wheel.

The icing on the cake comes in the form of its pricing which took everyone by surprise. No wonders that the vehicle had a long waiting period until Toyota increased its production capacity with an additional work shift. The diesel variant is expected soon and that will only end up making the Toyota Etios the best selling sedan in the Indian market.
