Kia has recently introduced a range-topping Sportage SX, exclusively for the U.S market. The new trim-level stands out from the crowd by a revised radiator grille, black plastic side skirts, dual exhaust pipes and swanky-looking 18” alloy wheels. Inside, the Sportage obtains a reworked instrument cluster and aluminium door sills. Mechanically, a sports-tuned suspension features stiffened shock absorbers and reworked gas struts.

Power will come from a turbocharged 2.0 litre GDI petrol engine, that develops 256bhp (260PS/191kW) and 358Nm (264lb-ft) of torque. This engine is married to a 6 speed automatic, giving an EPA rating of 22mpg city/27mpg highway for the front-wheel drive. The all-wheel drive variant returns 21mpg city and 25mpg highway.

Vice president of marketing, Michael Sprague, said: "[The] Sportage offers an ideal mix of performance, fuel efficiency and utility for the discriminating compact CUV buyer. With the addition of a more powerful Turbo GDI engine, unique interior appointments and improved performance, the Sportage SX makes an already appealing CUV even more fun to drive."

Prices start at $25,795 for the FWD model and $27,295 for the AWD, with sales starting this month.
