Retro Ride: 1990 Honda RC30

1990 Honda RC30

There are some toys that I’ve always lusted after and this 1990 Honda RC30 is one of them. Back in the day I used to be a total bike nut, in fact there was a time when my two wheeled buddies were my only form of transportation. I’ve had no less than 20 or so bikes over the years and each one’s had a different personality. Be it sport bikes, cruisers, enduros or motards, I love them all. The 1990 Honda RC30 though was one of those rare machines that just caught my eye and made my throttle hand twitch.

By today’s standards this now 20 year old Honda is a porker as it weighed in at 488 lbs, but with 118 ponies and handling that was simply sublime, it’s still more than capable of ripping it up on the back roads. The RC30 was also a pretty trick piece of kit with its single sided swing-arm, high swept exhaust and 153 mph top speed. When new the RC30 sold for a whopping $15,000, not only was that big money back in 1990, but it’s still big money today. Finding a good used one however can be a nightmare as there are just not too many floating around. One day I may find one to add to my collection, but as of right now the 1990 Honda RC30 is going to remain a pipe dream.
