New X-Lite pimps jeweled helmet to celebrate MotoGP Championship.

Jorge Lorenzo MotoGP Champion

Right now Jorge Lorenzo is probably sitting on cloud 9 as he was recently crowned the 2010 MotoGP World Champion on November 7th. To celebrate, X-Lite motorcycle helmets has created what is arguably the tackiest helmet ever by slapping 1800 Swarovski crystals on top of it. Now I completely understand that the company wants to celebrate this wonderful achievement, but this thing in my opinion, is a total embarrassment to the sport of MotoGP and to the effort put in by Jorge Lorenzo. Finished with eight layers of gold pigmented paint, the helmet features a circle of clear crystals followed by an emblazoned red “PorFuera” symbol that is synonymous with Lorenzo’s race career.

Taking approximately 96 hours a pop to create, these limited edition helmets will be delivered to customers with a special presentation package and Jorge Lorenzo signature. The price is a ridiculous $13,250 sans the pre-purchase $2,700 deposit. Ladies and gents, if this isn’t corporate marketing at its best I don’t know what is. I just feel bad that Lorenzo’s championship victory has to be marred by such a crappy tribute helmet.
