The 1973 oil crisis plagued by sales of high performance car manufacturers around the world, rising oil prices caused the government to mandate new laws, and fuel economy for consumers to seek more smaller, more practical modes of transportation. As a car manufacturer that produced V8 and V12-powered luxury sports cars in general, extremely poor fuel efficiency, the effect on the business of Lamborghini was devastating. In 1978, the company declared bankruptcy, an Italian court was appointed to find a buyer, and in 1984 the Swiss-based Mimran brothers took over the company, having achieved over four years while in bankruptcy.
