A streetcar named desire? Better call it the Stradale. This one’s a streetcar version of the Alfa Romeo Tz3 Corsa and is now entering limited production. The units are expected to hit the roads in early 2012.
The Corsa was unleashed last summer at the Villa D’Este to commemmorate the 100th anniversary of Alfa’s involvement in motorsports. Stradale is going to retain the raw intensity of the Corsa, which was based on the legendary Dodge Viper. The TZ3 Stradale has the same dimensions as the former, albeit in a lighter avatar - owing to its carbon fiber body. This is in direct contrast to earlier reports from Germany which claimed that the new car was going to be heavier, wider and longer than the Viper.
The Stradale boasts of double the displacement and nearly 40 percent more power than the Corsa - while the former one was a 4.2 Liter V-8 Rated, 420 horsepower beauty combined with a six speed sequential gearbox, this one comes with a 8.4 liter V-10 and 600 Horsepower output. This also marks a return to the Viper in terms of specifications. The Stradale is going to be a gas guzzler for sure, but that is not going to deter its fans.
The original Corsa was built for Martin Kapp, a German collector while he was attending the Zandvoort Tribute. The production version is probably for a wider audience: a little something which enthusiasts can possibly drive both on and off the track.
