Well, we say teased, but it’s an odd sort of tease. Rather like the even more low-key tease Porsche has done for the new 2010 Porsche Cayenne. But then I suppose it’s all the same company.
Volkswagen has placed a photo of the new Sharan on its German website, complete with dust-sheet covering most of the car. Just the nose peeps out and the nearside wheel. Doubtless to save viewers from self-combusting with excitement if they were to see the 2010 VW Sharan in all its unbridled glory.
Designed to suit the needs of Essex Mums with a big brood, the VW Sharon Sharan is VW’s seven seat people carrier and is – in its current iteration – the same under the skin as Ford’s Galaxy. Ford has already revealed an update for the 2010 Galaxy and now it’s VW’s turn with the 2010 Volkswagen Sharan.
But the Sharan is actually a new car and no longer shares its underpinnings with the Ford. It uses VW’s new flexible MQB platform and is the first real major change for the Sharan since it was launched in 1995. So it was due.
VW is playing tease, so we have very limited detail. However, the Sharan is likely to get a set of sliding doors and a more flexible seven seat configuration with higher quality trim. The new nose gets the family feel and we’ll doubtless get a full set of engines from a 1.4 TSI up to a 200bhp turbo. And there will be a VW Sharan BlueMotion soon after launch.
We’ll get more detail in the next week.
