VW BlueSport looks certain – but will there be a VW version?

The VW BlueSport Concept now looks certain to go in to production

The VW BlueSport Concept now looks certain to go in to productionThere has certainly been a great deal of conjecture in the motoring press about the VW BlueSport concept, ever since it was first revealed at the Detroit Motor show at the beginning of the year. We’ve been as guilty as the rest of talking the project up, and we’ve seen a Skoda BlueSport, a Seat BlueSport, a VW BlueSport, an Audi BlueSport and even a Porsche BlueSport mooted as likely candidates.

But it’s all a guessing game really. No one is certain – we’re not even sure VW is certain. But it is a very appealing project. An economical, well-performing, compact, 2-seater, open-topped car in the mould of the Mazda MX-5. The price point suggested isn’t brilliant (around £20k as a starting point) but with its Eco Credentials it really does have legs.

It seems almost certain that Porsche is out of the frame for the BlueSport – at least for now. Our money is on an Audi Bluesport plus either a Skoda BlueSport or a Seat BlueSport. But the default option is now in question – the VW BlueSport. It is being suggested that at a starting price of £20k no one would buy in to a VW Roadster at that price. Don’t believe it. We feel sure that there will be a VW, and Audi and either the SEAT or Skoda BlueSport announced before too long.

And to give a bit of extra credence to that assertion, VW has issued a new Press Release on the BlueSport Concept today, which is very detailed. Take look for yourself (link at the end). Would you issue that if you were VW and you thought the Concept was going nowhere?
