In 2009, Hohenester Sport announced its modified HS 650 Audi B7 A4 quattro had set a new world speed record of the fastest biogas-powered car of 364.6 km/h (226.6 mph) at the test track in Papenburg, Lower Saxony, driven by J√ºrgen Hohenester. The vehicle includes a 3.0 litre twin-turbo V6 engine, with electronically limited 700 PS (515 kW; 690 bhp) rating.

The all new Audi A4 Saloon - the sportiest car in the premium compact executive sector according to Audi - is revealed to the world in pictures this week ahead of its world debut on the show stand at the Frankfurt Motor Show (September 13-23).
Scheduled to open for UK ordering on the show’s Press Day on Tuesday September 11th 2007, the completely redesigned saloon sits on the longest wheelbase in the class, benefiting both interior space and chassis composure. In the interests of the latter, its completely new suspension and steering configuration sites the front axle 154mm further forwards than in the existing car, reducing overhang and optimising weight distribution for outstanding handling balance.

The 3.0 V-6 TDI produces a conservative 237 hp and, as is typical with a diesel, torque that eclipses that figure — its healthy 369 lb-ft is on tap from the lowly engine speed of 1500 rpm. As a result, a manual-transmission version like our tester is capable of 0-60 runs in just 6.1 seconds — a mere 0.2 seconds slower than the twin-turbo S4 of less than a decade ago.

It was recently learned that Audi has killed plans to bring the Q7 hybrid model to the U.S. market in 2009 because of the plummeting value of the dollar. It looks like the new A4 hybrid will get the same fate.

Audi USA communications director Jeff Kuhlman explained that the cost of homologating the hybrid system on both vehicles would likely not be offset by anticipated sales of the hybrids. As a result of low volumes and the unfavorable exchange rate, the prices would be too high to make business sense. Instead Audi is planning to offer the A4 with the same 3.0l diesel V6 that is to be used in the Q7 and VW Touareg. That engine is already being certified and has economies of scale so that it makes business sense. At the same time it will provide a significant boost in fuel efficiency compared to the gas V6 that is also available.
