Audi released the first official photo of the B8 series A4 in August 2007 and released the car to the public in September 2007 Frankfurt motor show. Saloon / sedan and Avant (goods / wagon) models are offered. The Avant was unveiled to the public in March 2008 Geneva Motor Show.

The A4 B8 is built on a variant of the modular longitudinal platform from Audi, a platform that is also used in the Audi A5 coupe. Although the A4 chassis were previously limited due to the wheelbase of the relationship between the engine, transmission and front axle, the MLP allows a reduced front overhang, resulting in a longer wheelbase length, without the same increase in total length. This effectively redistributes the center of gravity back slightly, improving the handling of a better mass balance of the vehicle between the front and rear axles. The estimated static front end: the weight of the rear of the A4 B8 is approximately 55:45, depending on body style and engine. The relocation of the steering rack on the front axle and improves handling over previous A4 platform.
