Today, Volvo released images of the new, 2010 Volvo S60 Concept car, giving us a sneak peek of what the new generation of Viking-inspired S60′s will look like. Scheduled for its official unveiling in January at the 2009 Detroit auto show, the 2010 Volvo S60′s design language draws heavy inspiration from traditional Scandinavian culture, including the famed Viking longboats from the days of yore.
Intended to usher in a not only new generation of Volvo’s, but a new philosophy as well, the 2010 Volvo S60 represents what Volvo Cars’ design director, Steve Mattin, called Volvo’s new “Do Not Abandon” approach. Struggling for years to integrate their oddly-shaped safety legacy into modern, appealing terms, Mattin described the 2010 Volvo S60 as “…a Dramatic New Approach. A refined balance of tradition and new, dynamic visual excitement.”
Although design elements of the 2010 S60 concept will undoubtedly be adjusted slightly before the production 2010 S60′s debut later, Mattin assures us that the 2010 Volvo S60 Concept’s exterior is a “very clear indication” of what the production-ready 2010 S60 will look like.
